Hard wired 220 – This unit seems very solidly built. It was delivered with open wires (no plug) at the end of the cable. It appears it must be “hard wired” into 220. Unfortunately, this will not work for my application and I must send it back. I have attached the wiring diagram from the instruction manual (since I didn’t see any of this information in the description).

Unfortunately, this will not work for my application and I must send it back. Frustrating – Product arrived two days late after shipping delays (Thanksgiving week, somewhat understandable.) Upon arrival, hired a professional electrician to install. After wiring it up and flipping the breaker to check operation, it would come on and then immediately shut down, completely unresponsive to any touch controls. Reset the breaker, same thing. Checked all wiring numerous times, scoured the useless manual for any information, and found nothing. It mentioned that controls “could be locked” and stated to “unlock controls,” but did not state how to accomplish that. I could find no information online or a customer support number to call. $100 later, the electrician left just as confused and frustrated as I was. Never again. Take my advice and avoid this brand.

Karinear cooktop: Easy installation, one safety problem – This replaced a broken glass cooktop from 10 years ago. My home has a 3-wire (black, bare copper, white) cable for this installation. The cooktop wires are bundled to make things foolproof, and they are. I am not an electrician, but I knew bare copper means ground, so I combined all coppers with a large wire nut. And then I found the bundle from the cooktop containing a black wire (and others) and combined them with my existing black wire. The third, or neutral, was bundled with my existing white wire. Easy peasy. The one problem with this cooktop is that my cats can easily walk across it and step on the button that turns on the unit. To solve this, I use some tiny tart pans turned upside-down and set over the on/off button. This has worked very well so far. Otherwise, the cooktop works correctly and is easy to clean using the scraping tool provided.
