Noisy but great ice – My biggest complaint is the noise this makes, if you have it in an open kitchen type situation it can intrude upon TV viewing or conversation. That being said it makes ice extremely quickly and it’s perfect for cocktails such as tiki drinks which call for crushed or pebble ice. I’d highly recommend the side reservoir as it keeps you from having to constantly refill the lower reservoir which you have to take the ice bucket out to do. It’s fairly easy to use but cleaning, which they recommend once a week, does have a learning procedure that can be time-consuming. We usually clean ours every 3 weeks, honestly the more ice you use the less you have to clean it. We only noticed a slightly off taste (like algae) when it kept re-cycling the same ice into water and back into ice when we didn’t use it much for a while. Now the whole family uses it daily and it stays very clean. It does also generate a lot of heat so be sure and locate it in a well ventilated area and don’t store plastic bags like bread near it.
