Pleased with purchase – The electric cooktop functions as described. I have only been using it for about one month, but elements heat quickly and food cooks evenly. It fit perfectfully in the cut out from our last cooktop and was installed quickly. (I did have an electrician do the installation). It was delivered on time and packed securely. Although I have used various cleaners in the past, I did purchase the Cerama Bryte cooktop cleaner as recommended and find it may be the best I have used. The cooktop has to be totally cooled down before applying the cleaner.

Not quite as great as the older model, still pretty good. – Replaced previous GE smoothtop cooking surface after 23 years of trouble-free service. (It blew its’ circuits and would have cost more to fix than to replace.) I ordered this one and it arrived two days later. Although I was nervous about it, I managed to install it myself successfully. It looks good and it works fine. If I had never had the previous one, I would think the new one is perfect. BUT, having had the earlier one, I have two minor complaints. First, the new one definitely takes longer to heat up than the older one. Whether it is cooking an omelet at medium heat or trying to boil a large pot of water, it seems to take longer. (I have no documented measurements, only my subjective feelings.) My second minor complaint is that trying to keep this shiny black surface looking clean is difficult. The previous one was a speckled grey color and that masks a lot a surface splatter and streaks. This one shows every drop of oil, water, etc., so it need to be cleaned much more often. Nevertheless, this is a great price-performer.

Think it through before you buy. – Update 05/2020: It lasted this long. From the time I first wrote my review till now. The large front burner is not turning on now, but the signal light stays on. So now I need to figure out how to replace the burner.

Great cooktop, but measure carefully – Excellent quality replacement cooktop. I changed out a Whirlpool that was a piece of garbage. The only caution I would offer is the body under the burners of this GE cooktop is rather svelte, and its glass border above the counter line is very narrow all around. Thus, if you are replacing a cooktop which is a bit more bulky underneath, even if the finished opening seems to be a good fit, there’s a good chance you will need to buy the $100 trim piece sold separately by GE because the edges of this unit that rest on the counter are minimal. That extra $100 makes this unit less of a bargain. Again, great cooktop, just make sure your opening is very close to the size of the unit body. The product manual has the details of the body dimensions.
