Nice looking but stinks – I bought this dishwasher in Lowes in July 2021. It is really nice looking one , cleaning the dishes fine, but it stinks. I contacted Bosh directly a few days after the purchase and they told me the smell will go away. It has not. There might be some issue with the design of the drain, maybe dirty water sits under the drain, not sure. After each wash I clean the filter , I wipe off the inside , have 2 dishwasher refreshers hanging, all the cleaning helps, but there is always some odor. I have had many dishwashers , this is my 2nd Bosh , never before had the odor problem, it is frustrating.

Great value. Eerily quiet – Bought on special from Home Depot for $535. A great value.

Great reputation, high price, high maintenance, so-so quality. – Bosch is a great name in dishwashers but sadly that name has taken dirt lately and for good reason; their 100 series 24 inch just does t do a complete job of cleaning dishes. It also doesn’t dry the dishes which is a big deal. The other issue is the frequency with which we were told later to clean the filter for this thing. We were told once a week. That seems a bit excessive.

Disappointed – dishes not clean or dry – Sadly, I’m disappointed with my Bosch dishwasher. I had high hopes. When my last dishwasher died a spectacular, fiery death I decided to get a dishwasher from a high-end brand. Bosch topped all of the lists at Consumer Reports, so the choice was obvious. My old dishwasher was a mid-range model from a cheap brand, so while it didn’t always perform well, that was no more than what I expected. Unfortunately, my new Bosch doesn’t even work as well as my old dishwasher and cost twice as much as some of the alternatives.

Not hot – Not any part of the description of this dishwasher says it is minus a heating element. You must connect to a hot water supply. Now we have to run the water in the sink until the hot water is there before starting the dishwasher. I don’t like this machine.

A best buy – After a lot of research and pouring over Consumer Reports ratings I settled on a Bosch dishwasher and then visited a number of appliance dealers. I do not cook a lot so rarely have large pots and pans or large loads so I settled on the price and performance of the 100 series and this one (SHEM3AY55N) stood out immediately and I chose to let the store (Lowe’s) deliver and install it. The installer had my old one out and this one in and up and running in ~30 minutes. A lot of reviews had commented that the dishes weren’t dry (no heat element !) but if you follow the recommended AUTO + SANITIZE setting and use a rinse aid (Finish is supplied but any brand can be used) the dishes come out hot and dry. The run times are much longer than older machines, 2 1/2 hours for the above setting but the machine is so quiet I had to feel the door to make sure it was running. Apparently the longer run times are part of the energy efficiency feature. Other reviewers noted a strange smell, probably due to some of the test water being left in the pipes of the machine, and it was true but I ran several empty loads, left the door open all day to help air it out and put a box of baking soda in it when I closed the door at night and the smell is gone. I’ve had it almost 2 weeks and have run it several times on a variety of settings just to test it and so far I am delighted with the performance but if you want your dishes dry when it finishes use the AUTO + SANITIZE + rinse agent. The manual says it will not start if the rinse agent container is empty but that’s wrong, it will. It is attractive design and fits in the standard 24″ x 34″ opening for most dishwashers but be sure to measure just in case. Bosch is the quietest dishwasher on the market and I love this model.
